Are Matte Lips Still In? Be in-the-know as our Beauty Expert Forecasts Makeup Trends that will Heat Up the Cold Months ahead. Our Lips are No Longer Sealed when we Reveal what Mandy predicts to be the Hottest Pick for the Winter Season. Read on about the makeup trends spotted during MOB Fashion Week and learn when the weather turns cold what is hot and what is not.
Speaking of hot, the dress below is a Unuluxe creation and one that I LOVE.

Mobile Fashion Week 2016 presented some amazing beauty trends on the runway at The Steeple – both for hair and for makeup. After talking with the fabulous CK Salon sisters about hair I immediately wanted to do the same with makeup, so I reached out to Amanda Snay (Mandy) with PÜR Cosmetics.
“Fashion week was definitely exhausting, but so rewarding,” explains Amanda Snay, lead makeup artist of Mobile Fashion Week 2016. During a last-minute and completely unexpected shortage of makeup artists, Mandy was forced to be quick on her feet to replace the artists, so she brought in some students from Virginia College. “They were awesome team players,” Mandy gushed about the students, “and in return I believe they were able to learn a lot from this experience.”

PÜR Cosmetics provided the makeup for this years show. Made in the USA, the company’s mission states that “at PÜR, we believe that innovative beauty shouldn’t be a burden on anyone. That’s why we’ve been committed to creating cruelty-free products from the start. All of our good-for-your-skin makeup and skincare products are completely free of animal testing. Eco-conscious users can also breathe easy knowing that PÜR is an eco-friendly brand committed to minimizing waste and using responsibly sourced ingredients, including those carrying our Farm to Jar™ Label.” PÜR even carries vegan friendly and gluten-free products!
Since your skin is your largest organ in your body, it is smart to be aware that what you put on your skin goes into your body. A good rule of thumb is not to put anything on your skin that you would not feel comfortable eating, ingredients-wise. I know this movement is a bit idealistic is some regards, but I try very hard to watch what I put on and in my body, so I greatly appreciate what PÜR Cosmetics is doing. Having learned that ‘wellness is a lifestyle and a key to health’ during my medical battles is one of the biggest lessons I have been blessed to have been taught.
Back to the topic at hand – Mandy explained that each designer had a vision of what they wanted for both hair and makeup, and that “it was our job to translate their creative ideas and bring them to life.”
Some of Mandy’s favorite looks and trends from this year’s runway? The vibrant saturated shades from the final night as well as the bohemian vibes of Mermania serving as inspiration to take that look to the next level with a “music festival themed style.”

Another of her favorite trends walked the runway during the first show of the finale, “where we used gold and brown as a monochromatic look for our models- men and women alike! Big, bold, straight brows glossed over with gold, gold lashes, brown liner, and deeply contoured cheek bones were our ticket. It was very William Bradley, and I was happy to design for him!” Mandy exclaims.

To feature a third trend, one of the makeup artists that supported during MOBFW was Olivia Schoenberger of Makeup By O.Scho. She has a large following on YouTube for her makeup tutorial videos (seriously, you should check them out.) When I spoke with Olivia about the makeup that hit the runway, she responded, “as far as makeup trends during fashion week, I loved the simple eye with a bold lip. I remember two of the designers wanted an extremely light and simply eye but a dark bold lip. One even wanted a black lip which I was obsessed with!”

When I asked Mandy about the models all wearing their hair off of their face during part of the finale (a trend I am obsessed with, btw), she quickly answered that “this just allowed me to get all my creative juices out! When you have your hair down and artistically placed as the first night, you have to make a balance between the hair and makeup not clashing, so it doesn’t take away from our designers. When you have hair pulled out of the face, and a blank palette to work with, it’s the face of each model’s time to shine! In all literal sense; hence William Bradley and Mermania‘s strong makeup looks!”

Being on team Top Knot and Pom Pom Pony, I was personally interested in finding out what Mandy suggested I change in my makeup routine when I wear my hair up.
“Anytime you face yourself having to pull your hair up, or facing an updo for a special event, let your own creativity flow,’ she mused. “Smoky eyes never look ‘too much’ when your hair is up; neither does a strong winged eye and hot pink lipstick!”
As far as forecasting makeup trends, Mandy mentioned that she is beginning to notice the use of gloss and satin lips on the forefront of the latest style, “which is why for the majority of our models we opted for gloss” while the majority of people may not yet know that the matte look is trending out.
She further explained that “companies like Jeffree Star and even drug store corporations like Maybelline have been coming out with more traditional lipstick and gloss formulas.”
To end the interview, Mandy turned up the Southern sass when she exclaimed, with hand-on-hip, “my dry lips are thankful for this new trend. Mama loved her Colour Pop liquid lips, but she’s looking forward to hydration this winter!!”
