Who says you have to put away all of your favorite ‘white’ attire after Labor Day??? Yes, we do believe there are certain fabrics, colors, and prints that may need to be laid to rest due to a seasonal fashion cue. Although when it comes to one of our favorite neutrals, we beg to differ. Here at Southern Atelier, we’ve done some closet organization and come across what we feel are some fabulous pieces that must be kept handy throughout the upcoming season! With the big debate of whether or not this is a ‘to do’ or ‘to don’t, we couldn’t help but pair and share some of our favorite looks in order to shed some white—we mean—LIGHT on this subject. 😉

Keep it sporty chic with this Benjamin Jay distressed tee and Cotton Citizen joggers. The suede ball cap in cream tops it off!

Take this look to the office! We’ve paired an oversized Sundry top with J Crew pixie pants! Finish the look with prints and textures! Necklace Seraphine Designs and shoes Gianvito Rossi.

We really hope that this piece has inspired you to pull out some of your whites and make them last! This is one neutral that you’ll definitely want to give a longer go around this season! Happy pairing! Top by ‘All Saints‘!

Perfect fashion advice for our very hot Septembers!
Thanks!
This is a great article! I struggle with this topic a bit when it comes to fabrics. Thanks for showing me that I can pull it off! The model is fabulously beautiful!
Nicole, I think everyone struggles with which fabrics are appropriate after Labor Day. I make that decision based on the weather. These are the rules I follow: no eyelet, no light linen and no seersucker. But I think all rules go out the window if its 90 degrees or more outside!
Here is what Emily Post has to say, “Of course you can wear white after Labor Day, and it makes perfect sense to do so in climates where September’s temperatures are hardly fall-like. It’s more about fabric choice today than color. Even in the dead of winter in northern New England the fashionable wear white wools, cashmeres, jeans, and down-filled parkas. The true interpretation is wear what’s appropriate—for the weather, the season, or the occasion.”
Check out this website, it explains where the rule comes from: https://www.good.is/articles/labor-day-fashion-rules
